The Junior Assembly Cotillion offers social training through ballroom dancing in an atmosphere of fun. Participation in cotillion is by invitation only to boys and girls in grades 6 through 9. Each grade level has eight Friday or Saturday night theme dances each season, with each succeeding year building on the foundation of the year before.
The Junior Assembly Cotillion enrolls students from public, private, and parochial schools all over the Richmond metropolitan area.
Why do so many still take part in cotillion? Director, Susan Norton answers "Enrollment in cotillion should be a parent's decision especially in the sixth and seventh grades since there are so many long-term benefits that only a parent can see. By the eighth and ninth grades, most students are making the decision to come because they enjoy dancing and being with their friends. We pride ourselves on being a well-organized program that provides both high standards and fun." Cotillion teaches ballroom dancing as a tool to put into practice the social graces the students are learning at home. Social graces and courtesies will never go out of style.
